ares, the International Association of Retired ESA Staff and their dependants, is the interlocutor between former staff of the European Space Agency and ESA's Administration and represents the interest of its members vis-à-vis this Administration.

 

Following its extremely successful 9th General Assembly of 09.09.2009, ares is stronger than ever!

 

Former ESA staff who have not yet subscribed to our objectives are kindly invited to complete the relevant forms to join their 910 colleagues who are already members.

ares objectivesmeetings and social activities
  • Represent the interest of its members vis-à-vis ESA through the Tri-Partite Forum (ESA, CSAC, ares) and through the assigned points of contact (ESA, ares) for daily matters;
  • Provide, through its local representation, for the interface with the relevant ESA establishment and, through this establishment, with the local authorities;
  • Represent its members on the CSAC working groups on social security, salaries/pensions and rules and regulations;
  • Consider all measures to protect the interests of its members and their dependants;
  • Keep the members informed on all matters affecting them;
  • Establish and maintain relations with other associations having similar objectives;
  • Organise lectures, information sessions etc.;
  • Promote its activities to ESA's former staff and staff of similar organisations; and
  • Promote space-related activities by its members, both in the scientific and engineering fields.
  • General Assembly
    Constitutes the basic body of the association. The GA is held annually
  • Local Branches
    The local Branches hold an Annual General Meetings to report to their local membership. In addition, they organise in:

    gatherings in the Rome area

    various social events, dinners and excursions and participation in the famous Spring Lunch

communicationsmembership dues

While the normal way of communicating will be via email, ares members who have no Internet access will receive all important information by surface mail. This includes the minutes of meeting of the annual general assembly and Newsletters with information of paramount interest to former staff.

For pensioners:
0.08% of your basic monthly pension (0.98 € for every 1000 € earned).

For Provident Fund members:
0.08% based on 70% of the current BMP for their last grade and step.

short history
  • On June 25, 1996, the first pages of our web site were published on the Internet;
  • On July 17, 2000, ares was registered at the Darmstadt Courthouse (VR 2968) and became, through that act, a legal entity;

Since then ares:

  • has been recognised by ESA as a formal representative of its retired staff;
  • Is represented on the tri-partite forum (ESA, CSAC, ares) chaired by the DG;
  • Is represented on the CSAC Working Groups on: social security, salaries/pensions and rules and regulations;
  • Established relations with associations of retired staff of other international organisations, and
  • Organised local representation in:
    • France (ESA-HQ, room 122),
    • Germany (ESOC, room B123),
    • Italy (ESRIN, room 80103),
    • the Netherlands (ESTEC, room Aj028),
    • United Kingdom *, and
    • Belgium *
  • informed ESA's Administrative and Financial Committee (AFC) about its legal status and objectives through AF(2008)28, dated 23.01.08
